ABOUT FLAG LEAGUE FLAG FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FLAG FOOTBALL FEES REGISTRATION
The 2009 spring season of flag football will begin during the first and second weeks of March. North Carolina divisions of the HFL are planned for Cary, Raleigh, Fayetteville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Garner, and Johnston County. South Carolina teams include the Greenville and Spartanburg areas.
2009 Spring Season of Flag Football
The HFL's flag football program is for homeschool boys between the ages of 6 to 18. We offer three age divisions:
- Mighty-Mite League (ages 6 to 10)
- Youth League (ages 9 to 15)
- Varsity League (ages 13 to 18)
The age guidelines are NOT absolutes. By offering flexible age guidelines, we hope to promote an atmosphere where brothers can consistently play on the same teams. If you would like to have a player placed in an older or younger age bracket, please communicate your intent when registering.
The 2009 spring season of flag football will begin with first practices being held during the first and second weeks of March. Dates and times for initial practices are listed below. The season will be 12 to 14 weeks in duration. We have structured the league with teams meeting only once per week for 90 minutes to limit the time required from participating families. Each team will have three practices, six regular season games, and a minimum of one playoff game. The champions from each location will be invited to join us for our League Championship Games which are scheduled for a Saturday, June 13th in Raleigh, NC.
We encourage dads, when available, to volunteer as coaches. We have found that coaching provides a great opportunity for a father to share in the molding of his son's values and sportsmanship. We do not expect fathers to commit to coaching every game and do not wish for any of the coaches to feel obligated. Dads are welcome to coach as little as a partial game or as much as every game of the season. One football game with his dad as the coach can be a wonderful experience for a young boy. Previous coaching experience is not required.
It is because we feel a father's participation is so special to his son, that we schedule a father and son flag football game each season. This game has consistently been a highlight of past seasons. Where dads are not available to participate, we continue to encourage all league players to join us for this special activity. We have a lot of fond memories from these games each season. The father and son game is scheduled for Saturday, April 11th (Easter Saturday).
NC Teams are scheduled for Cary, Garner, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Johnston County, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem. SC Teams are scheduled for the Greensville/Sparanburg area. We would also like to create expansion teams in Durham, Burlington, Charlotte, Concord, East Wake(Knightdale/Wendell/Zebulon), Union County, and Wilmington, with possibilities in many other areas.
If you are interested in helping to create a team in your area, please contact us. We need a minimum of 20 boys in an area to establish a division of the league in a community. Families are not limited to teams located in a particular geographical area and are welcome to participate on the league team that best complements their homeschooling schedule.
