ABOUT FLAG LEAGUE FLAG FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FLAG FOOTBALL FEES REGISTRATION
The HFL's flag football division has served the homeschool community with a Christ-based program for almost a decade. Come join us for a great season of football and experience the difference.
2011 Spring Season of Flag Football
The HFL's flag football program is for homeschool boys between the ages of 6 to 18. We offer two age divisions:
- Mighty-Mite/Youth (ages 6 to 11)
- JV/Varsity (ages 12 to 18)
The age guidelines are NOT absolutes. By offering flexible age guidelines, we hope to promote an atmosphere where brothers can consistently play on the same teams. If you would like to have a player placed in an older or younger age bracket, please communicate your intent when registering.
The 2011 spring season of flag football will begin with practices during the first week of March. Dates and times for initial practices are listed below. The season will be approximately 12 weeks in duration. We have structured the league with teams meeting only once per week for 90 minutes to limit the time required from participating families. Each team will have three practices, six regular season games, and a minimum of one playoff game. The champions from each location will be invited to join us for our League Championship Games which are scheduled for Saturday, May 21st in Raleigh, NC. The rain date for our championship games will be Saturday, June 4th.
We encourage dads, when available, to volunteer as coaches. We have found that coaching provides a great opportunity for a father to share in the molding of his son's values and sportsmanship. We do not expect fathers to commit to coaching every game and do not wish for any of the coaches to feel obligated. Dads are welcome to coach as little as a partial game or as much as every game of the season. One football game with his dad as the coach can be a wonderful experience for a young boy. Previous coaching experience is not required.
It is because we feel a father's participation is so special to his son, that we schedule a father and son flag football game each season. This game has consistently been a highlight of past seasons. Where dads are not available to participate, we continue to encourage all league players to join us for this special activity. We have a lot of fond memories from these games each season.
North Carolina teams are located in Alamance, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, Garner, Johnston County, Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Wake Forest, and Fayetteville. South Carolina teams are scheduled for the Spartanburg and Greenville areas. The HFL is also interested in launching programs in Durham, Wilmington, East Wake, and possibly the Alamance area.
If you are interested in helping to create a team in your area, please contact us. We need a minimum of 20 boys in an area to establish a division of the league in a community. Families are not limited to teams located in a particular geographical area and are welcome to participate on the league team that best complements their homeschooling schedule.

Flag Football Registration Fees
The registration fee for flag football is $115 per player if payment is received or postmarked by March 12th. Families with three or more sons participating in the league will receive our large family discount rate of $295 if registering prior to the March 12th early registration deadline. This discounted registration will allow all brothers in a family to participate in our flag football programs for one fixed cost. After March 12th, the early registration discount will no longer apply. All registrations must be paid in full by March 12th for the discount to apply. Families registering after the early registration period ends will be charged $145 per player or $385 when registering three or more brothers.
Families needing financial assistance can take advantage of our Domino’s Pizza fundraising cards to offset the cost of participating in the league. The fundraising cards are available upon request and are free to any family needing financial assistance. Please contact the league director, Earl Pendleton, at earl@homeschoolfootballleague.com for more information about financial assistance. In the past, we have used many methods to make sure no player is overlooked because of a financial hardship the family may be experiencing.
The cost of team uniforms, field rentals, awards, football equipment, league administration, and liability insurance are included in the participation fee. Beyond the purchase of a mouthpiece, no additional equipment is required. Mouthpieces can be purchased for 99 cents at many sporting goods stores or discount retailers, like Wal-Mart. Cleats are recommended, but are not required.
